Year 7 & 8

Waipipi School Intermediate Diploma

The Intermediate Diploma program at Waipipi School is specifically designed to meet the unique developmental, emotional, and learning needs of Year 7 and 8 students.

Intermediate age is a pivotal transition period—a time when young adolescents crave greater independence, seek personal identity, and begin taking genuine ownership of their learning journey.

Why the Intermediate Level Matters
  • Targeted Growth: Year 7 and 8 students are no longer young children, nor are they fully independent high schoolers. The Diploma creates a structured sandbox where they can safely stretch their boundaries, test their limits, and build self-efficacy.
  • Holistic Development: By requiring engagement across five core pillars—Academic, Culture, Endeavour, Service, and Sport—the program ensures students develop well-rounded skills rather than focusing narrowly on a single interest.
  • Building Accountability & Initiative: Students earn credits through actively tracking achievements, taking on school leadership roles, demonstrating service to the community, and stepping out of their comfort zones.
  • High School Readiness: Completing the Diploma instils essential life habits—goal setting, time management, self-motivation, and personal responsibility—preparing students to step confidently into secondary education and beyond.
  • Through the Intermediate Diploma, our Year 7 and 8 students are empowered to discover their strengths, contribute meaningfully to their community, and celebrate their personal achievements.
